The Mantis Roadmap to DeFAI

Introducing Personalized AI with DISE
The DeFAI Interactive Search Engine
Why:
At Mantis, we believe that AI agents will continue to be a key driver of DeFAI. However, we also believe that these agents need some additional features in order to best serve users:
Natural Language Capability: Letting a user speak freely in language of their own choosing is the best way to understand them; this generates data painting a detailed picture of a user and how they choose to interact with AI and the blockchain. Large language model (LLM) projects like Brian Knows have already proven this.
Personalization: Every user has unique needs and preferences. Therefore, we think it is important for AI agents to cater to the individual, instead of just having one AI agent provide a generic service to everyone.
How:
With this in mind, the first AI product being introduced by Mantis is custom AI agents. Mantis believes that AI should be catered to the individual: 1 agent, 1 account. We plan to enable personal AI agents associated with Mantis accounts that learn from an individual user’s wants and needs. These agents will be able to facilitate instant swaps on behalf of users.
This will all be facilitated by DeFAI Interactive Search Engine (DISE), which Mantis recently announced and demoed. DISE is a personalized AI agent that every user has in their pocket. It aggregates market insights, bridging and swapping and many more protocols to come beyond swapping. Users can simply type their command and the DISE agent spins it up for them.
Put simply, this is our AI-driven “search engine” for DeFi. More specifically, DISE is a large language model (LLM) plugged into ai16z’s Eliza, though we plan to open source the framework soon. With DISE, users can type out actions and search for the best swaps using plain language. Initially, compatible actions will include any sort of swap on or between Ethereum and Solana.
The purpose of DISE is to aggregate information in order to help users make informed decisions about what to swap. DISE is able to perform functions like:
Fetching tweets by or mentioning a specific user
Fetching token price or market cap
Fetching fungible and non-fungible tokens held by a specific owner
Fetching website content
Posting, quoting, and replying to tweets
Performing optimized token swaps on or between Ethereum and Solana via Mantis
DISE is also able to pick up on context, learning a user’s individual preferences. For example, if a user often asks DISE about memecoins, DISE will recognize this pattern and begin automatically providing information and recommendations for memecoins.
As a result, DISE is seamlessly integrated into Mantis and ensures that users have the best possible experience.
Extending Conditionality
Why:
Swaps are a foundational part of DeFi, and thus the first focus of our approach to DeFAI. However, there are many more complex DeFi actions that can involve a number of user preferences. Thus, we want to enable AI on Mantis to be compatible with a wide range of conditions expressed by the user.
How:
The next stage of personalized AI agents on Mantis is allowing these DISE to make conditional swaps on behalf of users. This will take into account all of the many on- and off-chain data sources also used by DISE, in addition to the user’s individual preferences and practices. Then, the agent will perform intelligent swaps, effectively managing the user’s portfolio automatically.
Conditionality here refers to advanced preferences for transactions such as dollar cost averaging (DCA), limit orders, stop losses, copy trading, and more. For example, a user can tell DISE to “buy X SOL if it drops to Y price” or “sell memecoin Z when I’ve gone 5x”. DISE then handles the rest, and will even be able to send the user notifications about events like prices and social media posts that are relevant to their conditional requests. Using the latter example, DISE might notify the user that a prominent crypto influencer has tweeted about memecoin Z, as this could influence price.
To execute these conditional swaps, DISE will need to be able to manage funds on behalf of the user. To facilitate this, there will be a smart contract that each user can deposit to. Only that user and the agent will be able to withdraw funds from this contract. This will be facilitated by an account abstraction wallet that makes use of Mantis accounts.
We’re also actively working on a mechanism to ensure that these conditions are upheld for user trades initiated by AI agents.
Running Complex Vault Strategies
Why:
Managing a portfolio is difficult, stressful, and generally a major responsibility. Thus, we envision that AI agents can implement complex portfolio management strategies not only for one individual, but also for many people. This will provide both individual users and retail investors with a strong framework for yield and returns in the crypto space.
How:
As AI agents on Mantis become more complex, these agents can be used to manage vaults that anyone can participate in. If a user has a particularly effectively-trained personal AI agent, this agent can be used to manage a vault that other users can deposit into as well. Then, the AI agent will manage these funds along its customized strategy, using its highly sophisticated knowledge and decision-making abilities to optimize and carry out trades. The best part is, AI agents always continue learning and improving, delivering best execution.
From here, Quantopian-style competitions can emerge. Quantopian was a company that crowd-sourced hedge fund strategies. On Mantis, the parallel would be that all AI agents on the platform would have unique strategies from learning from their individual user’s preferences and behaviors. Then, these AI agents could compete to provide the best strategies and solutions.
The Ultimate Mantis Vision
To summarize, the ultimate vision of Mantis is to be an AI-powered platform optimizing DeFi outcomes. This vision will become a reality first through DISE, which will enable swaps with more insights than ever before. Then, we’ll add capability for complex conditions to DISE, from basic DeFi operations like yield farming to more complex orders like dollar cost averaging (DCA). Finally, we plan to let highly-trained AI agents manage vaults on Mantis, allowing users to pick and choose between various automatically controlled strategies. All of this will be available in a streamlined mobile app, delivering DeFAI to the masses.
